Underground overhead line
As part of our UKPN DCDS contract we were requested to underground a section of 11Kv overhead line via the installation of approximately 170 meters of 185Ax triplex Hv cable, from a new terminal pole to a jointing position at the rear of landowner’s property. The existing OHL crossed land scheduled for development. The removal would enable the landowner to build a second property.
The initial outline design, general arrangement drawings and wayleave arrangements were completed by UKPN and handed over to Freedom. The site was visited to ascertain the viability of the UKPN proposal both from a civils view for cable installation and electrically for the overhead works. Contract pricing was completed and the Freedom Project Manager completed a full scope of works. The Forestry Commission was consulted due to the existing overhead line crossing a section of protected woodland and the landowner was updated to ensure stakeholder awareness of progression.
Freedom commenced the cable installation from the site of the new terminal pole on agricultural land, across the access track and through landscaped gardens. On completion of cable installation an electrical shutdown of the Hv network was planned and implemented by Freedom’s Senior Authorised Person and Freedom’s DCDS OHL team were put to work to build the Terminal pole, connect the installed cable and dismantle the disconnected overhead line.
Commencement to completion was achieved in 12 days by careful planning of civils works tying in with the scheduled Hv outage.
