Freedom’s sustainability programme secures CEMARS accreditation for third year running

Freedom, a leading provider of facilities and power engineering services and part of the NG Bailey Group, has been awarded certification to the internationally-recognised, ISO accredited CEMARS (Carbon Emissions Measurement and Reduction Scheme) standard by Achilles.

The independent accreditation is an important demonstration of Freedom’s sustainability credentials and on-going commitment to measuring and reducing its carbon footprint.

Freedom Environmental Sustainability Manager, Katerina Robinson, said: “Since enrolling Freedom in the CEMARS programme three years ago, we have retained our certification every year and during this time have reduced our carbon emissions by 43 per cent.

“We are delivering on our commitment to working sustainably as well as achieving significant cost savings. Over the last year we have improved the fuel efficiency of our fleet through replacement and monitoring driver styles which has reduced our vehicle idling hours by 20 per cent, representing £16k savings in fuel cost. We have also implemented an energy saving lighting programme in our key offices,

“We are delighted to have retained our CEMARS certification which is testament of our robust carbon data management. The process involves the independent auditing of our data and gives us the means to track our progress in reducing emissions.”

Achilles Global Head of Corporate Communications & Events, Rebecca Bantoft, said: “Based on international best practice, the Achilles CEMARS scheme provides a robust framework for participants to measure, manage and reduce their carbon emissions. We’re delighted to have been working with Freedom and to see the progress that has been made in reducing carbon emissions year on year.”

Freedom has recently published its Sustainability Report for 2017/18 which highlights how it is making a difference by supporting the United Nations (UN) Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). Freedom’s six priority goals have been selected due to their importance to the company’s stakeholders, the business and its ability to influence enabling Freedom to focus efforts on the sustainability challenges that matter and where they can make the most significant contribution.
