Claudia joined Freedom as a business administration apprentice in September 2017 and is based out of Freedom’s office in Stowmarket.
What does your apprenticeship involve?
I provide daily administration support to our facilities management call centre which includes sending out jobs in relation to vegetation, defect signage, fences or graffiti. I also use bespoke software to store and retrieve confidential information about what I’m working on for the relevant area of business.
Why did you choose an apprenticeship?
Prior to my apprenticeship at Freedom I worked in care. I was ready for a new challenge; however as I live with my mum and help her to pay the bills I wanted to find something which enabled me to learn a new profession whilst earning a salary. My apprenticeship at Freedom has given me that opportunity and it motivates me knowing that I’ll be qualified in a job I’ve always wanted to do.
Which parts of the job do you enjoy most and find most rewarding?
I started my apprenticeship with absolutely no knowledge of office work or business administration. I’m learning something new on a daily basis and can now confidently send out jobs to our operators, use bespoke software and understand the paperwork involved. Having picked up this knowledge so quickly and being able to do the job with minimal help is something I’m really proud of.
Is the apprenticeship meeting your expectations?
Yes, it is definitely exceeding my expectations as I’m getting involved in a lot more than I thought I would and I feel like a valued member of the team.
What advice would you give to others who are considering an apprenticeship?
For anyone considering one, my advice would be to make sure they fully understand what an apprenticeship entails so they can make the right decision and think carefully before committing.
What do you see yourself doing in the future?
I’m really enjoying my apprenticeship with Freedom. I’d like to continue working in the business as I’ve learnt so much so far and the people I work with are great.
