Wold Newton 132/33kV Substation

CASE STUDY: Substation Projects

Freedom were contracted by YEDL to design and manufacture a suite of 132kV and 33kV protection panels required for a major upgrade to this substation.

Client(s) YEDL
Location Lincolnshire
Project Start Date October 2004
Project Completion Date Summer 2006

The work included the replacement of both 132/33kV transformers and 33kV switchboard. The design work included all interface engineering work to enable the new protection / control systems to be successfully integrated into the existing site, which are configured as a four switch 132kV mesh. This included maintaining the functionality of the delayed auto reclose systems as the work was completed to a phased programme.

A separate contract was awarded to Freedom to undertake the installation of the protection/control panels and associated equipment, multicore cabling, earthing systems, 132kV busbar systems, overall site commissioning and the removal of redundant plant including the two transformers.

All work is now complete with all 33kV circuits, the two grid transformers and the scheme completed to programme during summer 2006.
