This came with the addition of a second transformer, fed from Lister Drive 132kV bulk supply point. Following a competitive tendering process, Freedom were contracted to provide project management, civil and electrical design, civil and electrical construction and overall commissioning under a turnkey contract arrangement.
The works consisted of the installation of 132kV disconnectors, busbars, LNERs, 132/33kV power and associated auxiliary transformers including all the necessary HV and LV connections and all civil work to create the new bunds for the transformers. New protection systems were designed, manufactured, installed and commissioned by Freedom for the new 132/33kV Transformer and the 132kV feeder between Wavertree and Lister Drive substations.
A significant challenge at the Wavertree site was the management and extraction of contaminated waste firstly due to Japanese Knotweed and secondly due to residual contamination resulting from the site being used for waste incineration in the early 1900s. The contract has been successfully delivered and handed over to the customer in December 2007.
