The previous assets required an unusual running arrangement to provide power to one of the connected customers.

Following a competitive tendering process, Freedom were selected to provide project management, civil and electrical design, civil and electrical construction and overall commissioning under a turnkey contract arrangement.

The works consisted of the complete design and manufacturing of the new 132kV and 33kV protection suite, the design and installation of a new 33kV building to house the new indoor 33kV switchgear, protection and ancillary functions, the dismantling and scrapping of the old outdoor 33kV switchgear with the subsequent re modelling of the old outdoor compound and lastly the completion of the HV cable jointing works on the 33kV cables on both the transformer and customer circuits.

The contract consisted of several outages to circuits feeding important customers such as BAE systems that were all successfully completed within the allotted outage window. The contract has been successfully delivered and handed over to the customer in July 2008.
