| Location | Littlehampton Primary Substation, Sussex, UK |
| Project Start Date | February 2010 |
| Project Completion Date | October 2010 |
The scope of the work was to replace the existing 33/11 kV 12 MVA transformer with a new 24 MVA unit to cater for demand increases in the area. A temporary transformer was installed to maintain network security of supply (N-2 security standards for the level of demand), while the longer duration work was carried out to install the replacement transformer. A new protection system was designed, installed and commissioned by Freedom Power Projects, taking into account the clients specifications.
A new transformer bay and bunding were installed to cater for the temporary transformer, while major modifications including extension to the bay and the addition of bunding were built for the new transformer.
Repairs were carried out to the fabric of the building, including cleaning and re-pointing the brickwork and new fencing was installed to increase site security. Due to the duration and man hours required, the site was CDM compliant with a permanent site manager being present during the project life cycle.
New protection systems were designed by Freedom’s in-house design team, installed by our Engineers, and commissioned by Freedom’s commissioning engineers.
