Welding and Non-Destructive Testing
Our in-house coded welding capabilities are certified to BSEN 9606-1 / BSEN 15614-1 and cover the following: • Carbon steel pipe and plate welding • Stainless steel pipe and plate welding • Duplex / super duplex stainless steel pipe welding We also have our own in-house weld inspection engineers qualified to carry out: • PCN Level 2 qualified dye penetrant inspection (DPI) • PCN Level 2 qualified crack detection / magnetic particle inspection (MPI) In addition to our in-house capabilities, we also offer on-site services for installation of items manufactured and onsite coded welding to any of your own items or structures, as required.
With extensive experience in both fabricated steel construction and engineering projects, Freedom can provide quotations from structural engineering or architectural drawings, CAD files or site visits. Typical fabrications include structural steelwork, secondary steelwork, up to 100 tonnes, staircases, mezzanine flooring, platforms, gantries, walkways, balustrading, barriers, ladders, and fire escapes. Where a design is not apparent, our engineering staff will work with the client to determine the most appropriate solution to suit aesthetics, functionality, legal compliance and budget. Fabricated items can be delivered in a variety of finishes as required; shot blasted and primed, paint decorated, hot dip galvanized, polyester powder coated, stainless steel or aluminium.
Sheet Metal Work
We specialise in providing bespoke high quality sheet metal items for all industries including manufacturing, marine, defence, pharmaceutical and food industries. Typical fabrications include: guards, hoppers, trays, square to round transitions, cabinets, canopies, and chutes. Our service is often complimented by subcontracted CNC punching and profiling using latest technology laser cutting, water jet profiling and plasma cutting. We cover all aspects of sheet metal work from 0.8mm up to 6mm including site measuring, marking out, fabrication, welding and installation as well as maintenance and repair work.
We undertake all types of steel pipework on pipework upto Ø300mm including carbon steel and stainless steel pipework to customer specification including modular, skid assemblies and spools. All types of welding can be undertaken including metal inert gas welding (MIG), tungsten inert gas welding (TIG), electric arc welding, silver soldering and brazing to suit the application. All types of ancillary equipment, such as valves, gates, gauges and relief valves can be integrated in line with customer requirements and specification. Freedom fabricates all types of skid work and fully contained process units. Examples of skid work include pump skids, pressure vessel process skids and skids for instrumentation and controls. Steel pipework can be provided with a range of surface treatments, including: painting, galvanizing, powder coating, shot-blasting and priming etc.
Freedom offers a comprehensive precision machining service, with experience in the machining of numerous material types and grades. These include: all carbon and stainless steels (including Ferralium and Duplex), alloy steel 625, 718, 825 and 925, aluminium alloys, monel, titanium, colisbro, brass, copper, nylon, ultem, peek and acetel. Freedom is able to offer a complete, comprehensive and competitive service for all machined components, from small plated contact pins in very large batches, through to large one off components and fabrications which require machining both pre- and post- fabrication. All parts are manufactured within the controls of our quality system. Full material traceability, quality plans, dimensional reports and product data books are available for all contracts to suit customer requirements.
Site Work Services
Vastly experienced in onsite installation works, Freedom supplies pipework fabrication and erection, steelwork fabrication and erection and onsite manual welding.
Crane Lift Operations
Freedom provides crane lift planning operations in accordance with BS7121 Parts 1 & 3. We have our own CPCS accredited appointed person and slinger signallers to enable us to carry out all our lifting requirements in compliance with the LOLER regulations We also undertake any contract lift that may be required.
Marine Services - Frigate Refurbishment
Freedom provided steel fabricators, welders, pipe and mechanical fitters, electricians, joiners and painters. Work on the crew accommodation included: removing and re-directing water, gases and waste pipe work, new electrical heating and lighting, flooring and bunk beds. Freedom project staff identified and hired a floating pontoon, in order that the original ships’ name plates could be ground off and replaced with new sign-writing.
Freedom has the in-house skills, knowledge and ability at its Barrow-in-Furness facility to accurately weld and NDT test to BS EN 15614 & BS EN ISO 3452-1 standards to ensure it meets the needs of the client, where ever they are located in the world.

Freedom's in-house team is able to deliver the clients requirements from concept to installation whether it be primary or secondary steel. Underlining all our works are a highly qualified and skilled workforce endorsed by our BS1090 accreditation.
