What we do


Freedom offers complete end-to-end LV to 132kV cable and fibre infrastructure installations, from initial planning and feasibility through to the cable installation, jointing and testing. We have the skills and resources to deliver major cable installations as well as cable infrastructure upgrades and diversions. Whether the locations are built-up cities or agricultural areas, Freedom will deal with all the Section 50 notices, as well as consents to cross a small ditch or a large river, we arrange all the approvals for our clients. This includes cable tunnels and shafts.

Who we do it for


Working extensively in the electricity distribution sector, we deliver overlay projects, diversions and link box upgrades for many of the DNOs. Clients include UK Power Networks, WPD, Northern Powergrid and SSE. Cable and fibre installation works are also delivered into the renewable energy sector and other network owners. Clients include Lightsource Renewable Energy, Anseco and SunEdison.

Our office based team fully supports the onsite teams, including our own streetworks planners. They co-ordinate all our notices and permits from application through to closing them down, throughout the UK.

Cable Infrastructure includes

  • Feasibility and Consultancy

    The feasibility services range from desk top surveys through to a full intrusive surveys for LV to 132kV power cables. Both come with a full report of the findings. The intrusive survey also includes trial hole reports, photos and a best option recommendation, taking into consideration the cost and the buildability of the route. Our skilled team can provide helpful assistance as well as a full consultancy service for clients looking to undertake their next project. Freedom also offers consultancy and temporary works designs from a 132kV and oil joint bays through to shaft and heading designs.

  • Major Cable Installations

    Freedom provides a complete end-to-end service for major cable installations, from initial planning and feasibility through to the cable installation, jointing and testing. This ensures a seamless and time-saving delivery. Whether the environment is urban, rural or agricultural, Freedom deals with all Section 50 notices as well as consents to cross whatever the terrain. Examples range from a 9.5km 33kV cable from a solar farm to the point of connection to a 200m diversion for two oil filled 132kV cables. Completing every cable route project as a turnkey project, should the client require this, we can also include directional drilling to lay cables under ditches, railway lines, canals, etc.

  • Cable Infrastructure Upgrades and Diversions

    In our delivery of many overlay projects and diversions, Freedom enables DNOs to keep the infrastructure safe from damage during any regeneration of areas or upgrading of the network to keep up with increasing demand. Freedom also carries out link box upgrades across the UK Power Networks eastern area enabling the DNO to work safely on the network. Our in-house fibre installations teams install new fibre between new solar farm developments and DNO substations to enable UK Power Networks to monitor the new sites. We also install fibre for CCTV security systems.
