The University has an extensive HV network consisting of approximately 26 substations which are organised as four distinctive rings from its own primary 132/11Kv substation. The scope of works was to upgrade part of the existing HV network including providing the provision of a new substation, the civil and trenching works and the installation of HV cabling to strengthen the existing HV network ring.
Freedom also installed the new HV switchgear, transformers, LV panels and the power factor corrections units within two of the existing substations. Fibre optic cabling was also installed between the substations so that remote monitoring, operations and metering can take place.
