Freedom was awarded the contract from CE Electric for the rebuild of YEDL’s 132 KV grid supply substation at Elland, West Yorkshire.

The project involved the demolition and rebuild of 17 circuits of air insulated switchgear on a phased programme over a four year period.
The design focused on the rationalisation of the existing and new equipment foundations, in order to minimise disruption of construction phases and maintain integrity of the supply to customers.
The design included rationalisation of existing structure bases, demolition of existing equipment structures, new equipment bases and aluminium structures and compound works.
Working for YEDL Primary Engineering Projects under a Framework Consultancy Contract for provision of civil engineering consultancy services, Freedom provided the following services: Civil Design, Structural Engineering, Project Management, Quantity Surveying and Safety Standby.
The design included rationalisation of existing structure bases, demolition of existing equipment structures, new equipment bases and aluminium structures and compound works.
The work Freedom carried out was also monitored and designed to National Grid’s specifications.
