The main objective of this task was to establish the current condition of all roofs within the targeted sites and make recommendations for repairs including priorities.
The main objective required roof top access and the first process was to conduct a risk assessment on the task. It was obvious that Working at Heights needed to be eliminated both in order to meet the hierarchal control measures and reduce cost (eliminate scaffold and edge protection).
The whole operation was a complete success ensuring risk was minimized, Cost was reduced and accurate and timely information sent to the Client.
This objective was achieved by procuring (successfully acquired by John Knowles) a notebook and interfaced with a compatible camera. The camera was then mounted on a 4m pole. In order to allow accurate pictures to be taken the camera was fitted with a zoom mechanism. This allowed the operator to accurately pinpoint the defect and take a picture directly through the notebook. Stability of the equipment was achieved by placing the notebook in a case and supported by a neck strap.
Successful trials were undertaken at Tingley and the equipment was rolled out to Operators in October. A short training course was undertaken and then Operators deployed into the field to conduct Site Surveys in November.
Three Field Managers conducted operations which were completed in Mid December. The whole operation was a complete success ensuring risk was minimized, Cost was reduced and accurate and timely information sent to the Client.
