Circa £2m per year for EDF, this solution is being rolled out to all other areas/clients.
The whole process allows us to replace and repair fences without excavating and risking potential cable strikes by our operatives.
Freedom dig over 5000 holes on substation sites pa which are heavily congested with HV service cables and other utility services. When fences are to be repaired and replaced this usually requires digging holes to a depth of 600mm depth minimum on average. Freedom proposed a ‘No-dig’ solution which eliminated the need for excavation to be carried out on potentially dangerous HV sites.
In brief the process consists of cutting back the existing concrete posts to ground level, drilling a 32mm hole down the centre of the remaining post and chemically fixing a patented bracket to remaining foundation and post, to provide a secure and stable connection between the existing and new posts. The whole process allows us to replace and repair fences without excavating and risking potential cable strikes by our operatives and the subsequent disruption of electricity services to the general public.
