To answer client concerns about ‘Lone Worker’ Health and Safety Issues when tendering for NEDL Grounds Maintenance Contract, Freedom developed and utilised existing mobile phone technology to monitor and record single worker whereabouts for contract ground maintenance in the NEDL area.
In matching existing technology to low-skilled grounds maintenance workers, a solution to being able to monitor concerns of lone workers, often in isolated areas, was developed. Briefly, text messaging templates were developed, so that contractors could easily text a variety of messages to a central server within Freedom.
For instance, if a contractor was to do a number of sites in any given day, on starting work he sends a ‘beginning work’ text message and site id, on finishing work at that site he sends a ‘completed work’ text message and on arriving at the next site, he sends a ‘beginning work’ text and a new site id and so on. At the end of the day he sends a ‘finishing work for the day’ message and leaves. The text messages are ‘live’ on a server within Freedom and provide a daily log of whereabouts and activity for our client – should he wish to visit an operative on site plus should any identifiable non-receipt of messages occur, checks can be put in place.
This was a major requirement of our client in pre-tender negotiations and is ongoing in KPI and metrics provision.
