Penrhyn Hill

Penrhyn Hill is a split level Dual Carriageway which passes through a rock mountain which inevitably made new installations a challenge.
Street Lighting Replacement
Client(s): Corus
NWP Power Systems (part of Freedom) were successful in winning this contract which involved the removal of 8metre concrete columns which had surpassed their life expectancy. The new lighting scheme consisted of galvanised steel lighting columns complete with Son-T lanterns.
Inspection and Maintenance of Civil Assets

The provision of services for the inspection and undertaking the maintenance of building and civil assets including key associated management functions.
Mirfield Substation Flood Defence Scheme
Client(s): CE Electric
The existing Mirfield substation was identified by YEDL Environmental Consultants as being within a flood plain and liable to 1 in 100 year extreme flood levels. Freedom prepared a scheme design for construction of reinforced concrete flood defence walls.
Annual maintenance for Harrods Ltd
Client(s): Harrods Ltd
Annual maintenance to all HV and LV power equipment for Harrods Ltd. Major High Voltage and Low Voltage modifications to the stores 20MW distribution supply. This involved working out of store hours, mainly at night and Sundays.
Bicker Fen 33kV Wind Farm
Client(s): R.G. Carter Engineering
Freedom was responsible for the design and delivery of the ‘on site’ 33kV network to 13 x RE Power 2MW wind turbines (26MWe Total Output). This included the design and construction of the wind farm brick built substation building.
Temporary Edge Protection

Originally the requirement was for a specific contract, however considering the number of times Freedom have carried out roof work it was soon apparent that the system could be used anywhere that minor work on a flat roof was being carried out.
Maintenance of HV Electrical Assets
Client(s): Chelsea Football Club
Freedom were appointed by Chelsea FC in 2006 to service, maintain and repair their electrical distribution equipment and plant. These works involve 6 monthly visits to site to undertake sub-station inspection.
HV Network Upgrade
Client(s): University Of Birmingham
The scope of works was to upgrade part of the existing HV network including providing the provision of a new substation, the civil and trenching works and the installation of HV cabling to strengthen the existing HV network ring.
